Li Auto L9 Arrives in the UAE

The UAE’s premium SUV market has another major newcomer. Li Auto has officially launched the updated Li L9 in the Emirates, marking the Chinese automaker’s first official vehicle sales in the Gulf region.

The timing is significant. UAE buyers are increasingly being offered vehicles that sit somewhere between conventional petrol SUVs and fully electric models, and the L9 uses an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) system designed to combine electric driving with the flexibility of a petrol-powered generator.

For UAE motorists looking for new technology without depending entirely on public charging infrastructure, that formula could prove particularly attractive.

Up to 1,650km Combined Range

The new Li L9 uses Li Auto’s third-generation extended-range electric system. According to launch information, it offers a CLTC-rated battery-only range of up to 420km and a combined range of up to 1,650km when the battery and fuel tank are full.

That makes the L9 particularly interesting for the UAE and wider GCC, where drivers may regularly combine city commuting with much longer motorway journeys.

Unlike a conventional hybrid, an EREV primarily relies on its electric motors for propulsion while its petrol engine works as a generator to extend driving range.

The flagship Livis introduces technology including an 800-volt active suspension system and electromechanical brake-by-wire, while the L9 range also features steer-by-wire, rear-wheel steering and a digital cockpit powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8797 platform.

Specifically Adapted for UAE Conditions

One of the most relevant details for local buyers is that Li Auto says the vehicle has been calibrated specifically for UAE conditions.

Changes address extreme summer temperatures, dust, local charging requirements and cabin thermal management. The L9 also integrates local map data and supports an Arabic-language interface, while Arabic voice interaction is planned for later in 2026.

Those adaptations matter in the Gulf, where high temperatures can place substantial demands on batteries, air-conditioning systems and charging performance.

Dubai Retail and Service Network

Li Auto is entering the Emirates with Al-Fahim Group as its exclusive UAE distributor. The partners plan to establish multiple official retail and service locations, with the first Dubai retail centre scheduled to open in September.

Official UAE customers will have access to warranty coverage, genuine parts, certified repairs, technical support and over-the-air software updates.

The combination of local after-sales support and UAE-specific vehicle calibration could help distinguish the official L9 from independently imported examples.

A New Competitor in the UAE Luxury SUV Market

The Li L9 arrives at a time when Chinese automotive brands are becoming increasingly prominent in the Emirates. A recent overview of 2026 UAE launches found that Chinese manufacturers accounted for more new arrivals than other manufacturers combined.

With six-seat luxury, advanced chassis technology and its unusually long combined driving range, the L9 is positioned to appeal to families who want an electrified premium SUV without committing to a pure EV.

Its UAE arrival also demonstrates something larger: the Gulf is becoming an increasingly important market for the next generation of Chinese luxury and electrified vehicles.
