Hennessey Performance Engineering has unveiled its latest vision of high-performance motoring with the all-new Hennessey Blackbird, a limited-production hypercar that combines classic driver engagement with cutting-edge engineering. Designed as the company’s third hypercar following the acclaimed Venom GT and Venom F5, the Blackbird takes a different approach by prioritizing the emotional connection between driver and machine rather than relying solely on electronic assistance.

Inspired by the legendary Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird reconnaissance aircraft, the hypercar adopts sleek aerodynamic proportions and sculpted bodywork that reflect the aircraft’s unmistakable silhouette. The design is more than a styling exercise—it serves as the foundation for a performance-focused machine engineered for both speed and stability. Active vertical stabilizers and aerospace-inspired surfacing contribute to the car’s distinctive identity while enhancing aerodynamic efficiency.

One of the Blackbird’s defining features is its commitment to analog driving. At a time when digital screens dominate modern supercars, Hennessey has deliberately embraced simplicity. The cabin features no infotainment screens, instead focusing on traditional controls, a large central tachometer, a physical ignition key, and a beautifully crafted six-speed gated manual gearbox. This philosophy places the driver at the center of the experience, delivering a level of involvement that has become increasingly rare in today’s performance car market.

Power comes from an all-new 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8, developed in collaboration with renowned engine specialist Ilmor Engineering. The high-revving engine is projected to produce between 800 and 850 horsepower, with a redline exceeding 9,000 rpm. Unlike many modern hypercars that rely on turbocharging or hybrid systems, the naturally aspirated configuration promises immediate throttle response, an unforgettable engine note, and a more authentic driving experience.

Performance figures are equally impressive. Hennessey estimates a 0-60 mph sprint of just 2.5 seconds, while top speed is expected to exceed 220 mph. Rear-wheel drive and the manual transmission further reinforce the company’s goal of delivering pure mechanical engagement rather than overwhelming drivers with electronic intervention.

Construction of the Blackbird centers around an advanced carbon-fiber monocoque chassis paired with lightweight carbon-fiber body panels. Hennessey targets a curb weight of under 3,000 pounds, providing an exceptional power-to-weight ratio. Adaptive suspension and carefully engineered storage solutions also make the Blackbird suitable for long-distance touring, expanding its appeal beyond track-focused driving.

Exclusivity remains a key element of the project. Production will be limited to just 71 examples worldwide, a tribute to the SR-71 Blackbird aircraft that inspired its creation. Each car is expected to carry a starting price of approximately $2.5 million before taxes, with production taking place in Texas.
