An official badge, a familiar English nickname and a China-market name can all lead to the same vehicle family. The important question is not which label sounds correct, but which exact market version is being offered.

A UAE shopper can begin with “Leopard 5,” open an official local page for “DENZA B5,” and then find parts or owner videos filed under “Fangchengbao Bao 5.” It looks like three vehicles until the naming history is understood. Then a second mistake becomes possible: assuming that a shared model lineage makes every market version identical.

The practical answer sits between those two extremes. The names are connected, but they do different jobs. One helps owners and importers find the international conversation. One is the official UAE retail identity. One points to the original China-market product. A buyer should use all three for research, then return to the VIN and the exact vehicle for the purchase decision.

The three-name map

Leopard 5 is the familiar English search name used by many UAE owners, importers and shoppers. It is useful for discovering discussions and international reviews, but it is not the official UAE showroom badge.

DENZA B5 is the official UAE retail name. DENZA’s UAE website lists the B5 as an off-road hybrid SUV and provides the local model presentation. For current UAE trim, equipment, support and warranty questions, that local identity should be the starting point.

Fangchengbao Bao 5 is the official China-market name in BYD’s Fangchengbao range. It is the relevant term when researching a China-market vehicle, Chinese documentation or parts catalogues built around the original market name.

This can be reduced to a useful search rule:

• Use Leopard 5 to find owner language and international discussion.
• Use DENZA B5 UAE to verify the official local vehicle.
• Use Fangchengbao Bao 5 when checking a China-market import.

The words “same vehicle” should therefore be used carefully. They describe the model lineage and naming relationship. They do not replace a market-specific specification sheet.

Why the distinction matters in the UAE

The UAE combines official GCC vehicles, parallel imports and a highly international online research environment. Search results can place all of those versions on one screen without clearly identifying the market behind each claim.

That affects more than cosmetic options. Depending on the exact production market and trim, buyers may need to verify charging hardware, interface language, connected services, software region, driver-assistance functions, certification, warranty responsibility and dealer support. Even the official DENZA UAE model page cautions that displayed specifications are subject to the actual vehicle. That is a useful principle for every source, not only manufacturer pages.

The safest response is not to distrust every listing. It is to separate discovery evidence from purchase evidence. A video can reveal a feature worth asking about. An owner post can identify a recurring issue. A product listing can suggest a compatible part. None of those sources proves what is fitted to the vehicle in front of the buyer.

Six facts to record before comparing offers

1. VIN, model year and production market

Start with the VIN and the vehicle documents, not the nickname in the advertisement. Record the model year, production market and exact trim. This creates a fixed reference when two listings use different names for related vehicles.

2. Official GCC vehicle or parallel import

Ask the seller to state the import route in writing. An official UAE vehicle and a privately imported China-market vehicle may follow different support, software and warranty paths even when their body shape and basic platform are closely related.

3. Actual charging interface and limits

Inspect the charging inlet on the vehicle. Confirm the supported AC and DC standards, the onboard charging limits and any adapter proposed for UAE use. A physical adapter cannot create a charging protocol that the vehicle does not support.

4. Software, language and connected services

Test the features that matter before payment: interface language, navigation, mobile-app registration, account ownership, over-the-air updates, voice functions and connectivity. A feature demonstrated in a China-market review may be unavailable, disabled or supported differently on another market version.

5. Written warranty and repair route

“Warranty included” is not enough. The contract should identify the responsible company, covered systems, labour terms, repair location and treatment of the high-voltage battery, power electronics and software. For a parallel import, buyers should also ask how replacement parts and diagnostic work will be handled.

6. Exact-fit accessories and replacement parts

A shared model name does not guarantee that every screen protector, floor mat, key cover, charging-port component or electronic module is interchangeable. Confirm the supported market, model year, trim, dimensions, connector and installation position. Small revisions can matter even when two vehicles look identical in photographs.

The naming issue is visible in search data, although search data should not be confused with sales demand. In Autosupp’s Google Search Console sample for the 28 days ending 30 July 2026, its dedicated Leopard 5/DENZA B5/Bao 5 naming guide appeared 1,056 times in Google results. A related Leopard 5/7/8 comparison page recorded 3,689 impressions and 70 clicks in the same period.

Those figures do not prove how many vehicles will be sold. They do show that UAE users repeatedly encounter the naming problem while comparing models. The search journey often begins with the familiar word “Leopard,” then branches into official names such as DENZA B5 and BYD Ti7.

There is one additional boundary worth keeping clear: BYD Ti7 and Leopard 7 refer to the same separate vehicle, with Ti7 used as the official UAE retail name and Leopard 7 commonly used by owners and importers for the China-market Tai 7. Ti7/Leopard 7 should not be merged with DENZA B5/Leopard 5 merely because both sit inside the wider BYD off-road SUV conversation.

3. Open the official UAE source for local claims and the official China source for China-market claims.
4. Mark every feature that has not been demonstrated as “unverified.”
5. Confirm the company responsible for warranty, software support and repairs.
6. Match any exact-fit part to the actual dimensions, connector or part number.

This process is deliberately simple. It does not require a buyer to become an expert in transliteration or brand architecture. It only prevents a search alias from being treated as a technical specification.

The useful conclusion

For UAE research, “Leopard 5” is often the most effective discovery phrase. For an official local purchase, “DENZA B5” is the name that should anchor the paperwork and current UAE information. For a China-market import, “Fangchengbao Bao 5” is the name that should anchor the original-market documentation.

All three names can belong in the same research session. The final decision, however, belongs to one VIN, one market version and one written support route. That is the difference between understanding the name and understanding the car.
